Top 50 Boy Names for 2026: Ranked by Personality Scores
Choosing a boy name is one of the biggest decisions parents face. Popularity lists tell you what other parents picked. Perception data tells you what impression each name actually makes. Here are the 50 boy names with the highest combined scores across Success, Warmth, Morality, Health, and Cheerfulness.
How We Ranked These Names
Each name in the Mehrabian dataset has scores on five perception dimensions. We calculated the total combined score (all five added together) and ranked the male names from highest to lowest. The theoretical maximum is 500. The actual range is much narrower, but the differences at the top are meaningful.
The Top 50 Boy Names
- James (427) - The highest-scoring male name in the entire dataset. Exceptional Success (109), strong Health (87), and solid Morality (82).
- Steven (417) - Rare combination of high Success (93) and Warmth (88). One of the most balanced boy names.
- Robert (403) - Classical strength across all dimensions. No score below 72.
- Kenneth (392) - Very high Success (102) with no blind spots.
- Kevin (390) - Strong Cheerfulness (79) makes this name feel both capable and approachable.

What the Top 50 Have in Common
Almost all are one or two syllables. Most are Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, or biblical in origin. They feel established but not dated. The few longer names (Alexander, Christopher, Jonathan) compensate with strong cultural associations.
The top 50 boy names are not necessarily the most popular. Popularity measures how many parents chose the name. Perception measures what impression the name creates. Some of the best-perceived names are surprisingly underused.
