Baby Names Inspired by Virtue: Names with the Highest Morality Scores
Some parents choose a name that carries meaning beyond sound and aesthetics. A name associated with integrity, trustworthiness, and principled character creates a different kind of first impression. In perception research, this is the Morality dimension.
What the Morality Dimension Measures
The Morality score in the Mehrabian dataset captures how trustworthy, principled, honest, and ethical a name sounds to strangers. It is distinct from Success (ambition) and Warmth (kindness). A name can be seen as moral without being particularly warm, and warm without being particularly principled.
Names that score high on Morality create the impression of someone you can trust. They suggest reliability and integrity before the person has said a word.

- Holly — Morality 76. One of the few names that scores well on Morality, Warmth, and Cheerfulness together.

Names of Historical Virtue
Some names carry Morality associations through their cultural history rather than phonetics alone. John has been the name of prophets, apostles, and presidents for millennia. James carries centuries of leadership and principled action. Teresa calls to mind both the Spanish mystic and the modern saint.
These names have had time to accumulate integrity associations. When perception research confirms those associations with data, the signal is unusually strong.
Morality and the Other Dimensions
High Morality names tend to have moderate to high Warmth as well, which makes sense: people associate trustworthiness with caring character. But high Morality does not always predict high Success. The leader names category covers names that combine both.
